The school adopts the LA guidelines which outline the process for offering places and how places are offered to children if there are fewer places than children wanting to come to the school. The waiting list is based on a three tier system:

  • Tier 1 (priority) - Children in looked after care.
  • Tier 2 - Children with siblings at the school.
  • Tier 3 - Children that live closest to the school.

Please note that the waiting list is a dynamic list and is subject to change when we receive new applications. This means that your child can be moved down the waiting list if other applicants better meet the criteria as detailed above.

For a school like Clifton, without a catchment area, children with a statement of special educational needs, who have been identified as needing to attend schools with specific facilities to accommodate them, will be given priority - if the school has those facilities. If a child needs support in their learning but does not have a statement, the school will do all it can to accommodate that child.

We believe that one of the strengths of our school is its supportive and calm environment, which often helps children who are unsettled when they arrive.

A child must be offered a place at the school which parents prefer unless this would affect an efficient education or efficient use of resources at the school. If this is the case then the school may recommend to the parents that it would be best for the child to look for another school, even if not all the places are taken at Clifton. The school will offer parents support to find another school.

The admission limit for Clifton Primary School is 120 places for Reception and Years 1 and 2. There are 90 placed in each year group for Years 3 to 6. The Nursery has 60 Full Time Equivalent places.
