Event - The World at Clifton Week

November 2009

During this special week, beginning Monday 9th November, we celebrated the diversity of our school community and learnt about all the different countries that our families come from.

We invited parents in to help and had lots of exciting things happening in school. One parent came in and told a traditional Somali story to two classes in Key Stage 1. Some Year 5 children also took part in a Somali dance workshop and others in Year 2 learnt how to make Somali pancakes. We also had a Yemeni parents' traditional story session and some Year 6 children enjoyed a traditional Yemeni dance workshop.

Year 4 children took part in Indian art sessions, Year 3 children enjoyed an African workshop as well as tasting a Moroccan dish with mint tea and cake! Children in Year 1 also made Pakoras and other children in Year 3 enjoyed finding out all about Bosnia in their workshop. Some children in Year 2 also made scones to have with clotted cream and jam, like a traditional British cream tea. What a busy week!

As well as working with parents, each class researched a different country and found out more about where our families come from. Each class put up a super display in the corridor. Come and have a look!
