Event - Our Website Wins a School Award

16 December 2009

Birmingham Mail School Awards 2009: Website/News Award Winner

We were absolutely delighted to be invited to the Think Tank on Wednesday 16th December as shortlisted nominees for the Birmingham Mail School Awards.

We were shortlisted for the Website/News category after Mrs Sheldon spotted the article about the awards in the paper and Mrs Allen nominated us. At this point, we didn't know we were going to win the award!

It was such a great day. We arrived at 10.00 am and had two hours to explore the science museum. We investigated how to recycle various objects and we recorded our own news report! We also went into a police caravan and learnt how to investigate and solve a crime. There was also a robot that we had to control by pushing buttons and it played drum beats for us.

After that, we had a drink of orange juice. Then it was lunch time and we went into a posh room that was decorated with balloons. We had party hats to wear and there were mints on the tables. We were lucky because we got to sit on the front table next to the stage.

Our lunch was fantastic - we had chicken, peas, potatoes, carrots and stuffing balls. For desert we had pancakes with bananas, vanilla ice cream and toffee syrup - that was delicious!

After that we were all nervous because we didn't know if we were going to win, but guess what... we did! We were all very excited! We were given a certificate and a glass star trophy with our school name on and we won a £300 cheque for school. We took back the balloons to school to show everyone, along with our trophy and certificate. We were also in the paper on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th December.

The Birmingham Mail says about our website: 'Clifton primary School has raised the bar with their exciting, interactive and very informative website. Instantly appealing to parents and students, it's design proves that learning and fun are a great combination..'

We agree and think that our website is amazing – definitely a true winner!

When we arrived Mrs Mitchell treated us to a chocolate milkshake.
