Event - Year 3 Inspire Workshop

20 January 2013

During the week beginning 20th January, Year 3 parents and children took part in an Inspire workshop within school. This workshop introduced the Impact for Writing Programme, which aims to raise children's ability to write different text types independently.

The programme is based around weekly homework challenges that the children complete with parental support, and during the workshop parents and children worked on writing a recount about something that had happened in the last few days.

Lots of children chose to write about the exciting times they had had in the snow!

Despite the bad weather, there was a good attendance and lots of parents were able to take the opportunity to work alongside their children. Parents enjoyed the workshop; here is some of the feedback:

"I liked the ideas that the teacher talked about and the ways that we could help our children."

"A clear presentation that put parents at ease. I feel a lot more confident and will help my child with his homework using this very useful advice."

"It was a great opportunity for me to get an idea of what my son's current targets are, which will help me work with him to help him at home and improve."

"I liked the idea of planning before you write sentences."

"It made writing seem easy and at the same time added so much detail."

"I enjoyed working with my child at the workshop."

"It was very detailed and practical because it led us through the work, alongside the children."
