Event - Year 5 Music Club go to Symphony Hall

January 2010

This morning, at 10:00 the Year 5 Music Club Children went to Symphony Hall with Miss Parkes, Mrs Gardner and Mr Churchill. We went on the Number 50 bus to the City Centre then we walked to Symphony Hall. When we got to Symphony Hall, we climbed up the stairs and found our seats. The seats were the special seats you get in concert halls that spring up when you stand up! We were very high up in Symphony Hall on the front row of the top balcony. Symphony Hall is massive and lots of different schools came to the concert.

At 11.30 the concert started. There were lots of musicians and instruments on the stage. A man came and introduced the concert and told us about the different instrumental families in the orchestra and about the music they were going to play. The orchestra played the Enigma Variations by local composer Edward Elgar and in between the variations a man dressed as Elgar told us the story of the music he wrote. Everyone listened carefully when the orchestra played. Some of the music was quiet and peaceful and made some of our group feel sleepy! Other pieces were very loud and woke everyone up again!

When the concert had finished we came back to school on the bus and ate our tasty packed lunch that the kitchen staff very kindly made for us.

We really enjoyed the concert at Symphony Hall. Hena like the violins and Jara liked all of the music. Miss Parkes liked the piece about the dog that fell down the hill and splashed in the water at the bottom! We hope that we will be able to go to another concert soon!
