Event - Fair Trade Competition

16 October 2010

A group of eight year 4 children worked with Ms Fortnum to take part in the St Paul's young entrepreneurs Fair Trade competition.

They had to design and build a fair ground type game, put together a business plan and decide on which charity that any money raised would go to.

There were three ideas put forward and after our business planning meeting the team decided to opt for the game that used recycled materials as this would minimise the outgoing costs, also we were very lucky that a business in Kings Heath donated the money for our prizes which in turn would mean that we could donate more money to the Heart Foundation. So thank you to P.P. Atkinson and Son.

The team were amazing they all contributed to making the game, the testing + problem solving of it and the making of all the support materials to display on the day.

We all met at school at 10am on Saturday 16th Oct. Everyone was very excited, we carried our game to the Venture and set up and had our first customer by 10.45.

The day was a huge success, by 3pm we had raised £27.70 and because we had not spent any money on materials all the money we had raised will be going to the British Heart Foundation.

A big thank you to all of the Superstars Team who were Adil, Hira, Tanbir, Ruweyda, Idris, Nayla, Farzana, Taniya.

Painting the board for our game.

The ping pong balls were a disaster. They kept bouncing out, so we had to rethink.

The team decided to go with balloons filled with lentils.

Even very small children had a go.

Mrs Brown had a turn at our game.
