Event - Year 6 Science Day at Queensbridge

July 2010

As part of getting ready for going to Secondary school, year 6 children have visited Queensbridge secondary school in Kings Heath for a day of science activities.

Working in science labs with protective goggles and Bunsen burners, we were set the challenge of becoming forensic scientists to find out who had murdered one of the teacher's cats! Using flame testing, we tested three different powders and were able to determine the murderer by the colour of the flame. It was excellent!

Next up, we became Ethan Hunt from the Mission Impossible film; we had to measure how different chemicals affected the temperature over time. This involved measuring time and temperature and finding out about endothermic and exothermic reactions.

It was an excellent trip; the science labs were amazing!
