Event - Year 2 Visit the Snibston Discovery Centre

13 June 2012

Children in Year 2 enjoyed the visit to Snibston Discovery Centre as part of the introduction to the term's IPC topic on Living Things.

The excitement began even before the trip started, with the children delighted by the arrival of the coaches, for the forty-five minute journey to Snibston.

During the day the children were all very well behaved and a real asset to the school. Boris the skeleton helped the pupils deepen their understanding of the senses and then they used their artistic skills to draw and label a variety of wildlife.

The outdoor activities included activities to develop their understanding of Forces and Sound. Also the Wild Water area encouraged the children to collaborate with one another to open sluice gates to allow boats to move around a variety of channels.

The children enjoyed the novelty of eating their lunch in a railway carriage.

The indoor Science Area allowed the children to lift a real Mini using magnetism and to make a fire, rubbing sticks or using bellows. Some children even cycled alongside a skeleton on a bike!

Finally the children visited a meadow area with a variety of wild flowers and trees. The children had a great time learning at Snibston.
