Event - Creative Partnership Circus Project

5 July 2009

This term class IK have been involved in a Creative Partnership with Queensbridge Secondary school. The project was a drama project to help children develop their speaking and listening skills.

A visiting Dramatist worked with the children to produce a piece of drama based on the Circus; a topic that the children had been learning about in class. The project was a huge success.

After ten sessions throughout the term the children shared their performance with parents and other children in school.

The response from the audience was fantastic. Lots and lots of parents and teachers said that they could not believe how confident the children were in their roles. One parent even said that she felt like she had actually been to the Circus for the afternoon!

All pupils involved said that they really enjoyed taking part in the project!

No circus would be complete without a ringmaster and what a fantastic job he did!

This is Campbell our visiting dramatist and musician. He was selected after a group of children interviewed several artists. With Campbell's help, we also composed and performed our own song.

Working co-operatively to practise our new circus skills, like balancing on the 'pedal-goes'. At the end of the project we performed to parents and other children.

Look at our clowns doing their tumbling act!

Children work together to lift the ringmaster onto the high wire!

Children worked really hard to hold still poses while balancing plates – how clever!
