Event - Year 3 MAC Fashion Trip

January 2014

Year 3 went on a trip to the MAC for an exciting day of making felt for a superhero logo design, linked to our IPC topic of Fashion.

We walked to the MAC which was an invigorating start to the day. Once we got there we split into two groups and went into our rooms to start the day with our lovely instructors Emma and Sarah.

We started by designing a superhero logo using our ideas from our ICT comic strip, we drew these and coloured them in after we had described what colour they would be and come up with a superhero name!

We then spent the rest of the day using wool that we pulled apart to create our logo. We laid the wool out in the correct order; there were lots of lovely colours to choose from. Once we had created the design we soaked the wool in warm soapy water and put a sheet of bubble wrap over it. The class then had lots of fun rubbing the felt through the bubble wrap - we even got a minute to pop some of it! Once we had rubbed the bubble wrap we rolled it up and wrapped it in a towel so we wouldn't get soggy from all the water we had used. Finally we had to each roll the bubble wrap 50 times! It was tiring but fun and we made it into a challenge.

Sarah told us that she would take our felt designs home to put in the washing machine; this would help to make sure the wool had stuck together. The washing machine would shrink our designs so we could sew them onto our t-shirts back at school.

We had a fun-filled day at the MAC, we really enjoyed the activities and the fun walk there and back!
