Event - Clifton Sweep the Board at Calthorpe Awards!

24 September 2009

Clifton Primary School was richly rewarded for its longstanding commitment to PE and school sport at the first ever Calthorpe School Sport Partnership Awards Ceremony, at Birmingham City FC.

The school led the Partnership by receiving three awards - team of the year, commitment to the 5-hour offer, and most competitive school – and were nominated for many more.

The ceremony brought to an end a fantastic year of sporting success throughout the school, which was recognised in Clifton's 'outstanding' Ofsted report.

Pupils past and present attended to receive the prizes at a glittering event on Thursday 24th September.

First up, Clifton were awarded Team of the Year for the amazing success of their Cricket team which reached the county finals of the Year 5, 6 and Girls sections.

They had hardly taken their seat when they were up again for Most Competitive School, a well deserved title considering they had won the School Sport Partnership competitions in Tri Golf, Cricket, Year 2 multi-skills and the Birmingham Indoor Rowing Championships, as well as entering every partnership competition.

Finally the PE team were rewarded for their commitment to providing extra-curricular activity through the Commitment to the 5-hour Offer award.

Other notable achievements for local schools were:

  • Primary Link Teacher of the Year: Alan Brown - Chandos School
  • Innovation Award: Mo Muhsen - Christ Church School
  • Special Achievement Award: Calthorpe School Golf Team

Pupils from Year 6 and former pupils were delighted to receive their prizes from future Olympic stars and a former NBA basketball star, in a great night. Thanks should go to the Calthorpe School Sport Partnership for their great work in providing many of the sporting opportunities Clifton Pupils have accessed.
