Head's Welcome

Mrs Mitchell, our Executive Head.

I am very proud and privileged to be the Executive Head at Clifton. We are an oasis of calm in the middle of the vibrant city of Birmingham.

We constantly strive to live up to our Mission Statement: 'A World of Learning Together' by creating effective and purposeful partnerships with parents and the community to anchor our young learners in strong values which allow them to thrive in a fast changing globalised world. Further details can be found in our Vision Statement and Aims.

We live our vision and values and this is verified by the awards we have achieved.

We use the International Primary Curriculum to inspire the children and link with other schools in global partnerships to further bring learning alive. Through this we achieved the International Schools Award. We encourage pupils to develop their artistic and musical talents and achieved the Arts Mark Gold Award. We have also achieved the Primary Science Quality Mark which underlined the excellent investigative work which runs through the school. Through a broad and balanced curriculum we aim to create life-long learners with a hunger for knowledge and provide an all-round education, balancing the development of character and abilities with academic excellence.

We are committed to excellence and the breadth of our achievements have been recognised in two consecutive Ofsted Reports (2009 and 2013) in which we were graded as outstanding in every category.

Clifton has been designated a National Support School. Our Chair of Governors is a National Leader of Governance and I am a National Leader of Education. We have nationally accredited Senior Leaders of Education in our Leadership Team as well as a member of the Leading Leaders Network which is centred around forward thinking ICT. We work collaboratively with other schools to ensure that the learning journey for all children within our community is excellent.

Teaching and learning is at the heart of everything we do and it applies to staff and parents as well as our children. All parents are encouraged to attend school for Inspire sessions and workshops (such as using an iPad) and we have a vibrant website with video clips explaining how we teach subjects such as maths. Our regular coffee mornings, supported by the Friends of Clifton, provide the opportunity for parents and the school to engage in a constant dialogue and learning journey. Our teachers, support staff and Governors attend high quality training and share their expertise with one another. We also encourage teachers to continue their education journey by studying for accreditation such as with a Masters or Doctorate.

At Clifton we work as a team to provide the best for our children. The school is vibrant and we pursue excellence within a culture of care. Our pupils leave Clifton having developed into well educated, confident, healthy individuals with the strength of character that enables them to achieve their full potential in our increasingly globalised world.

I hope what you have seen of the website so far has given you a flavour of the culture and community that makes Clifton so special.
