At Clifton we have many clubs running after school – please see our timetable below. Our brilliant Teaching assistants also run lots of extra clubs on a Tuesday; for more information please speak to your child’s class teacher.

Some of the Clubs We Run
Football Club with Aston Villa FC
We run Football Clubs for boys and girls from Year 3 to Year 6. Our club on a Monday is open to anyone who wants to improve their game, under the watchful eye of Aston Villa coaches as part of our relationship with the Aston Villa Football Foundation.
Girls Football – Wildcats
We have a thriving Girls Football club and this will be relaunched as an FA Wildcat Centre from October 2024, due to our excellence in providing opportunities for girls in the local area. We take part in events linked to the FA Girls Football Partnerships and invite pupils from other schools to take part in training with us and matches.
Football Academy
Designed for those who show expertise in the game and want to represent the school competitively, our Academy is run in association with Bright Futures Association, who also run out of hours clubs at Clifton and in Balsall Heath. This group of players enter the Aston Villa football matches and the Greet Summer League.
Superhero Club
To make our club provision as inclusive as possible we run a Superhero club to maximise the potential of children with a range of SEND needs. We play a variety of sports including wheelchair basketball, boccia, kurling and Archery. From Spring Term, we are running a new Cricket club in conjunction with Warwickshire CCC. In addition to this our participants regularly take part in the amazing Superhero Tri programme in school at Lake Dorney.
Basketball Club
Basketball has been a huge part of our Extra-Curriculum programme over the last few years. We have a close relationship with the City of Birmingham Rockets, who have provided coaching and staff CPD to ensure we offer high quality training. Regular matches against local schools keep our players on their toes.
Rackets Cubed Table Tennis
We work closely with the Rackets Cubed organisation to run an amazing STEM and Table tennis club. Pupils receive an exciting Science, Maths, Engineering or Technology lesson and high-quality coaching form Continental Stars Table Tennis Club. If that wasn’t enough, they even get a nutritious meal as part of the club!
Tennis Club
We hold a regular club led by Usman from Street Futures, where pupils enjoy learning new racket skills. The pupils develop these skills into match play and then take part in Intra and Inter School Festivals held at either Cannon Hill Park or the Priory Tennis Club.
2023-24 saw us run additional tennis sessions for over 100 children in association with Sport for Life International.
Netball Club
Our netball club has developed nicely over the last couple of years after gaining significant support from England Netball. We now have trained staff members who provide an excellent programme for pupils at the school. After improving their skills in the club, they pit their wits against others through School Games competitions and festivals.
Cricket Club
Again, in association with Street Futures, our weekly cricket club is for boys and girls who want to improve their striking and fielding skills and move into the competitive game. Last year the squad from this club won the Clifton School Games competition and several of the players represented local clubs or even played at county level!
Other Weekly Clubs
Our Teaching Assistants and Learning Mentors also run weekly clubs in a range of areas, such as art, board games, social skills, craft and other fun activities. Each half-term pupils are invited to 4 weeks of clubs, with the focus being chosen by our School Council. This means that hundreds of our children access extra-curricular activities each term!
‘This Mum Runs’ Club (optional)
Taking place twice a week, our This Mum Runs club is open to any female member of the community who wants to take regular exercise through walking, jogging or running. Our last cohort of participants ended up running the 5km or 10km Sutton run and some of our female staff ran in the London Marathon.
Staff Run Club (optional)
Our amazing teacher and Triathlete, Mrs Wood has set up a new running club for staff to improve their fitness and well-being, who meet every Monday after school. We use our Daily Mile track to improve every week.
